Samar Sabie

Dr. Sabie is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science at U of T and an incoming Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She was trained at the University of Toronto as an architect and as a software engineer before completing a PhD in Information Science at Cornell with a minor in STS. Her research examines how design as a socio-material practice supports communities in reconfiguring or reimagining the environments they inhabit in more equitable ways despite cultural, generational, and political differences. Her approach is interdisciplinary, combining design and making with ethnography, critical theory, and pedagogy development in community-based contexts.
